Negative questions – have a negative word. Negative questions are used to pressure or surprise others. If the negative answer is known or suspected – people respond negatively.

  • People often ask negative questions – to add pressure or to surprise others. The best way to answer negative questions is to avoid saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
Example: It’s late, aren’t you going to the cinema this evening?
Asked in the negative form – because, there is reason to believe that – the person’s answer will be negative (it’s late, so unlikely to go to the cinema). The answer to this question might be “No, I’m not going to.

Impact of Negative Question:
  • Avoid asking inappropriate questions with negative intent, such as making people feel bad or putting people on the defensive.
  • Negative questions are confusing – they have a “yes” or “no” answer.
  • Don’t ask questions that expose a person’s weaknesses – make the person uncomfortable – or elicit a defensive response.
নেতিবাচক প্রশ্নে – একটি নেতিবাচক শব্দ থাকে । নেতিবাচক প্রশ্ন অন্যদের চাপ বা অবাক করার জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয়। যদি নেতিবাচক উত্তর পরিচিত বা সন্দেহ হয়- লোকেরা নেতিবাচক প্রতিক্রিয়া জানায়।

নেতিবাচক আকারে জিজ্ঞাসা করা হয়েছে – কারণ, বিশ্বাস করার কারণ আছে যে- ব্যক্তির উত্তর নেতিবাচক হবে (দেরি হয়ে গেছে, তাই সিনেমায় যাওয়ার সম্ভাবনা নেই)। এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর হতে পারে “না, আমি যাচ্ছি না।

নেতিবাচক প্রশ্নের প্রভাব:
  • নেতিবাচক উদ্দেশ্য যেমন- লোককে খারাপ মনে করানো বা মানুষকে আত্মরক্ষার উপর দাঁড় করাতে চাওয়া- অনুপযুক্ত প্রশ্ন জিজ্ঞাসা এড়ানো উচিত।
  • নেতিবাচক প্রশ্নগুলি বিভ্রান্তিকর – তাদের মধ্যে “হ্যাঁ” বা “না” উত্তর থাকে।
  • এমন কোনও প্রশ্ন জিজ্ঞাসা করবেন না- যা কোনও ব্যক্তির দুর্বলতাগুলি প্রকাশ করে – ব্যক্তি অস্বস্তি বোধ করে – বা প্রতিরক্ষামূলক প্রতিক্রিয়া সৃষ্টি করে ।
