Reasons Why Bangladeshi Students do not Respect Teachers:

Low teacher morale and lack of formal education are responsible for this. As a result, students do not respect teachers. Bangladesh’s teaching and learning quality has been a concern for many years. Unfortunately, poor quality teaching professions and the lack of proper education have degraded students’ morals and values.

The root cause of this problem can be attributed to teachers’ low morale and inadequate training. Due to a lack of proper training, teachers fail to guide and motivate students and help them form moral and ethical values. Poor and Unethical Parenting:

In Bangladesh, it is common practice for parents to give away mobile phones, iPads, and other gadgets before their children start school. Parents’ busy lives give them little time to teach their children important values. So they don’t learn to respect elders and show love and respect to their younger siblings and family members.

Many parents are resorting to dishonest means to earn money. This sets a negative example for their children, which lowers their self-esteem. As a result, students may begin to lose respect for their teachers. Currently, there is extreme anarchy in the educational institutions of Bangladesh. Students, who are considered to be the future of the country, are subjected to various forms of abuse, including insults, harassment, and rape under the supervision of teachers. Unfortunately, instead of being protected and guided by their teachers, the students are suffering at their hands. This dire situation is detrimental to the growth and development of education in the country and needs to be addressed urgently.

Students’ Perception of Teacher’s Role:

Students’ perceptions of the teacher’s role in students’ lives and the value of education, can influence their level of respect. If students see teachers only as authority figures who provide information rather than mentors who support their growth and development, they may be less inclined to show respect. If teachers behave only as authority figures who only provide information without taking any significant role in the personal growth and development of students, then it may be difficult for teachers to gain the respect and attention of students. However, it is crucial that teachers take on the role of mentors and establish positive and supportive relationships with peers that encourage growth, learning, and mutual respect.

In Bangladesh, teachers stay away from teaching, the teaching profession is often overlooked due to the prevalence of coaching programs. These coaching programs are often rigorous and comprehensive, leading to teachers being neglected by students. When society does not value education, students tend to lose respect for their teachers. This can create a negative impact on the quality of education, as students cannot concentrate or take their studies seriously. Consequently, this can lead to a vicious cycle, where a lack of respect for teachers further diminishes the value of education in the eyes of society.

Humble Recommendation:

The state of the education system in Bangladesh is a growing concern that demands immediate attention. The scheme is slowly but surely eroding the quality of education, and undermining the acceptability of education to the masses. This is leading to a dangerous situation that threatens not only the individual but also the family, community, society, and the country as a whole. Immediate, if effective action is not taken to address this challenge, the socio-economic consequences for Bangladesh will be severe and long-lasting.
